Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to frame a picture?

We get this question everyday, but unfortunately there is no simple answer. The cost depends upon the size and materials used. The type of art being framed dictates which materials should be used. For example, a poster may be vacuum mounted on a foam board but an original watercolor requires archival mounting, archival quality matting and we strongly recommend UV filtering glass. Bring in your artwork and we would be happy to go over the options.

What is vacuum mounting?

Vacuum mounting is a heat process which permanently attaches the artwork to a foam board to prevent rippling.

What is archival/conservation/museum mounting?

These terms are interchangeable and refer to hinging artwork to acid-free and lignin-free foam boards. The art hangs freely, allowing it to expand and contract with changes in humidity.

What is UV filtering glass?

UV filtering glass has a UV inhibiting coating with filters 97% of the damaging UV light. UV filtering glass is available in a regular style, non-glare and an invisible museum style.

What is matting?

Matting is the "window-cut" material placed around an image within a frame. It can be of a paper quality or archival (acid-free) quality and is available in a wide range of colors.

Why should I archival frame my art?

Archival framing protects the art from the damaging effects of time and from common pollutants that cause yellowing, fading and deterioration.

Should I match my framing with my decor?

While we consider the room's decor, we select framing materials which will enhance the art first and foremost. We have a huge selection of materials to choose from so we are able to enhance the art and have it fit in your room.

What can you frame?

We can frame just about anything! Diplomas, certificates, photos, sports memorabilia, posters, watercolors, acrylics, oils, pastels, canvas transfers, shadow boxes, needle and fabric art, etc., etc., etc.
